Now this post is suddenly getting notes, and I feel I should have talked more about other areas Suyin is progressive for the franchise.
Su becomes the female mentor figure and older friend Korra’s been missing.
Both ATLA and LoK have been lacking in adult, female mentor…
You may mess up, but you’re not a mess up.
You may make a mistake, but you are not a mistake.
You may screw up, but you are not a screw up.
You may fail, but you are not a failure.
You are not your downfalls.

Ok first the short version: I like what is canon, or what is most heavily implied by canon.
Long version: I love the idea of young Tenzin and Lin as a couple, and I love that they ultimately were not meant for each other. As far as my headcanon goes, I try to take everything that was said about their relationship in the show as truth. They were growing apart, Pema IS the right woman for Tenzin, and they are both over each other and are now friends.
I think Lin’s bitterness over the break up was more in light of everything else that had happened to her and her family, and losing Aang (who was probably a bit of a father figure I’m sure, and granted Tenzin ofc lost him too). The relationship itself became this last tether she had to something comfortable and familiar from a happier time in her life, and she wanted it to stay exactly as it was. Not get married, not break up, nothing, and Tenzin was enough of a doormat that he let it go on because it was kind of just this comfortable/easy thing for him too, even though he wanted marriage and kids and all that. Furthermore, Lin would see it as a betrayal of trust. Like if Tenzin had been completely truthful about his feelings on their relationship, it wouldn’t have taken Pema to make them break up. A mostly unseasonable expectation but still there.
Also I don’t think Beifongs deal well with any situation that implies they are ‘second best’, no matter what that situation might be.
I HATE the idea that the only reason they broke up is because of some need to have air children. Like it was definitely A reason, but more because Tenzin genuinely wanted to be a dad, not out of some obligation to make more airbenders. I don’t think Aang and Katara would have ever, ever implied that he should break up with someone he was in love with just to continue his bloodline. Aang wouldn’t let Katara go, and that was a potentially World Ending decision so, lol. I can think of plenty of other things Lin and Tenzin would have not seen eye to eye on and eventually broken up over. Plus, Bumi and Kya could technically have air children as well, especially Bumi.
So I don’t like present day/current timeline Linzin. I like Pema too much, and I think Lin is like way too badass for Tenzin. Sorry if I’m baiting and switching anyone with that Tenzin’s abs comic, that’s more Lin/cute man abs and Lin/annoying Tenzin than Linzin heh heh
i have headcanons drawn i should probably just post those lmao
Take him seriously before it is too late. There’s nothing worse than an “I Told You So” and ghost possession.
